Cancun Whale Shark season starts: May, 15th
Cancun Whale Shark season ends: September, 15th
Cancun Whale Shark season peak: Between July and August we'll find to 40-80 docile whale sharks floating on the surface at the same time. One of the biggest Whale Shark migrations in the world!
No, it is not dangerous to swim with Whale Sharks. It may seems intimidating, but Whales Sharks are not harmful or dangerous to humans at all. Whale Sharks are very calm and docile fish, they only eat plankton, krill and fish eggs (this is the reason they visit us every year).
The Whale Sharks feed on the surface since the early hours of the morning. The first boats outspread out the known range and broadcast location marine band. Are we guaranteed to see the sharks? The short answer is NO, but your chances of missing out completely are slim (2% on the last 14 seasons). During peak season (July-August) your chances are then close to 100%.
Slim if at all, we have not had any incidents. The tour is on its 15 th year, and the worst we’ve had, are minor jellyfish stings. We are well equipped to prevent and/or treat such.
Well, no. We wholeheartedly recommend it, but if you are not in any way comfortable in snorkel gear, you can stay on board. The view from the boat is excellent, with super opportunities for photos and video.
We’ll get to the the Cancun whale shark area in around 50 to 80 minutes. Our boats are fast, stable and fairly dry. Keep you eyes peeled, there are many sightings of sea life (turtles, dolphins, rays) on the way!
Plankton, krill, tiny creatures, and fish eggs that drift freely on the water.
No, there are no whale sharks in Cozumel. Whale sharks are found between Cancun and Isla Contoy, and also near Isla Holbox. If you are looking for a Cozumel whale shark tour, you will necessarily come to Cancun.
We visit a National Protected area, with all necessary permits and regulations for your own and Whale Sharks' safety.
